Meet our Team: Barry Semple

CommunityTeam
Meet Barry Semple, our Director of Advanced Solutions and office prankster.

Describe yourself in three words.
Honest, dedicated, and experienced (experienced is the PC version of “the oldest tech”)

When did you start at Fully Managed?
February 2017

What is your role at Fully Managed?
Director of Advanced Solutions

In 3-5 sentences, describe your day-to-day responsibilities at Fully Managed.
Guiding our teams to find the best solution to any requirement which transpires, while mentoring our technical staff in their growth in both technical knowledge and their thought processes. Ohhh, and of course, ensuring people have some fun on the way … everyone works better with a smile on their face!

What is your favourite thing about working at FM?
There are two main things I love about working at Fully Managed, the dedicated, smart people that I get to work with every day, and how much I get to learn every day in the amazingly diverse, unique, and intricate environments that we are privileged to be caretakers of.

What is your proudest moment so far at FM?
When we all work as a team to improve a process and then get unsolicited feedback on how positive the impact of that improvement has been.

When you’re not at work, what are you doing?
Anything and everything away from the concrete jungle … hiking, biking, rock climbing, snowshoeing, and skiing, all with the family. Then to get real breaks from technology and the speed of life, I do multi-day hikes in to the backcountry to photograph the amazing views that nature provides!

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone interested in joining our team?
Be prepared to be amazed at just how much you can learn, and experience you can gain, when you have the opportunity to work in 150+ IT environments!

What is one piece of advice you would go back in time and give your younger self?
Don’t EVER, EVER believe that you are either not capable of doing something or not capable of learning to do something! My career in computers was delayed by a good few years as I did not have the confidence in what I was capable of achieving, even after teaching myself machine code programming and having my first application published at 19.

If you could choose a super power, would it be invisibility or the ability to read minds?
The ability to read minds, as invisible or not, you would know someone was there and what their intention was.  Reading people is something every person needs to understand!
