Microsoft today announced via e-mail to clients that the hosted Blackberry Enterprise Services (BES) for BPOS clients is now available immediately and costs $0. This is a follow up to the recent announcement posted on the Office 365 blog. Two letters were sent out (Letter A & Letter B), depending on whether or not the client was currently actively using BES or not on their account. The process to take advantage of the free hosted BES licenses is simple: 3 or 4 steps depending on whether one fits the former or latter category.
When Office 365 is released later this year, BES services will also be free and Microsoft/RIM together have announced significant collaboration on this project to ensure that new and exciting features are released for BlackBerry users (for example: mass provisioning, software updates, etc.). We are thrilled at what this means for our Managed Services clients who are subscribing to BPOS and I for one am confident this is one more nail in the coffin of 3rd party hosting providers and on premise Microsoft Exchange (specifically, for those where the cost of hosted BES @ $12 per user per month was seen as too steep). Great job Microsoft!
